Trip overview

June 10, 2009

Dear Friends and Family,

There is often news and film about the beautiful resorts in the Dominican Republic, but the reality is that as soon as you get away from the luxurious resorts you find extreme poverty. We have been blessed with the opportunity to serve God in the Dominican Republic.

For the first time the entire Hopler family, Bruce, Terri, Caleb and Levi are going to spend a week together serving in a squatter’s town of Bani. We will be joining a group of women from our church, Cornerstone Community, to lead creative teaching workshops to new teachers in a brand new school that will be opening Fall 2009. While there, we will also be working with the women and children in one of the poorest regions of this country. This will include painting and fixing up the classrooms of the new school.

We will be working with a network of churches called Red Del Camino. This group has started medical facilities, sports teams, vocational training, teen groups, and various efforts to feed the poor and homeless. These are just a few of the amazing things this group is doing. Bruce serves on the board of directors for the Red Del Caminio.

Our group leaves on August 1st and returns on August 8th. We are excited and honored to be going on such a worthwhile trip that will make an impact on a large scale. We have a lot of preparation to do! Our goal is to provide these new teachers with useful and creative teaching methods to better educate the children of that community.

Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare materials and raise funds for the trip. We would be grateful for donations of classroom supplies that we could take with us to help stock the new school. The estimated cost for the trip is $1500 per person ($6000 for the entire family), which will cover travel, food, and hotel fees. It will also help pay for supplies, the guide, and the interpreter during our visit.

In addition to prayer, we would appreciate any financial support as God leads you. If you can help please make your tax deductible check out to Cornerstone Community Church, mark it for the HOPLER DR TRIP, and mail it to the church at 6570 Dobbin Road, Columbia, MD 21045.

In addition to direct support we are hosting fundraising events. See attached sheets for those opportunities!

Warmly in Christ,

Bruce, Terri, Caleb, Levi

Dear Bruce,

Herewith I wish you and your family a very blessing time in Bani.

Maybe you know me by telling from pastor Esdras Kelly, but I am working in this poor neighbourhood cince March 2000. At that time we build the youth centre with World Servants.

After that great time I decided to live for 6 months in Bani and every year I come back. Many times I come back with groups Dutch people to build on a church or school. So in 2007 we start building the school above the church of pastor Esdras and nog 2 years later, the lessons will start in the school and Elen will be the director of this school!

It is very great, the things you are going to do there and I hope Elen and the other teachers will learn a lot from you!

May the Lord bless you!
